You want a what? Tattoo

A tattoo

You want a What????? This is what my husband said to me when I told him I wanted at tattoo.. I will have to go back in time to explain why my husband was in shock when I told him.

When we first met, 25 years ago, Neither of us had a tattoo. It never even crossed our minds. Just something other people had. I didn't mind that other people had any. I just couldn't understand why they wanted what they had.

We have four children. As they got older into their teenage years, they all wanted tats. They each had different ideas on what they wanted. It seemed to be what all their friends were into. My husband and both said no. We said that they had to be 18. They finally quit asking because they knew we would not change our minds. In the meantime our oldest (my husband's daughter from a previous relationship) had gotten a few tattoos. she lived with her mom. So, as far as our other three teens saw it, we were the meanest parents in the world. We kept our word and the kids did not get any tats before they were 18. It was only after one of our other daughters lost her baby that she thought about getting a tat. She was 22 at the time. In remembrance of her daughter she had a tattoo of her babies foot print with angel wings next to it. It was then that I started to really look at ink others had. Most of them meant something to the person. Not just because they wanted to be like someone else. I guess it is kind of like the saying "wearing your heart on your sleeve."

To me, it was awesome to look at other tats and wonder why they had what they had.

My husband and I never really talked about them anymore. So, back to the beginning of my story. When I told my husband I wanted a tattoo, he was shocked. Then he proceeded to tell me that if I got a tattoo, he was going to get one that said f*** you on his forehead. I thought about it for almost another year but I still wanted one and I knew what I wanted.

I did get a tat finally that means so much to me. I am Bipolar, and I love bears. So my tat is bipolar bears. Something I will never out grow or be too old for.

As the for kids, Our oldest has many tattoos, some that don't really mean anything (she was 14 when she got her first one) and some that remind her of her children. Our other daughter only has the one to reminder of her 1st born. The two youngest are in the 20s do not have ink. They both still what tats; but are waiting until they really think of something that fits them. My second youngest has decided on cherry blossoms and a lady bug. The lady bug is for her sorority. Now she just has to wait and save up money.Oh, and luckily my husband got over me getting a tat and did not get his. But if he really wanted it I would stand by him all the way.

What's next

I am already planning my nest tat. Something with all my grand children's name in it. I have a few ideas. Maybe some sort of family tree. It has to be something I can add onto. I have five grand children and two on the way. I'm sure I will have than that also. Whatever I decide will be my own art. Any suggestions?

Finally, my second tat

Well, this is the newest additions to my tattooing. A family tree with my grand children's names on it. I am going to have some greenery on it in a few weeks. Love it though.

They can be very personal and meaningful. I have one in my mind, but have never found the person who could put it on paper. Maybe one day I will find the person who can draw what I want to wear for life. lol

It took my husband 26 years to convince me to let him get a tatoo. He loves it. My father is the illustrated man and I never wanted to marry someone with tatoos, but he's happy with the one and even my daughters and one son have small ones, they can only be seen if they're in the pool.
